Spring 2023 Update - Pollen Season - Great South Africa Trip

Spring 2023 Update - Pollen Season - Great South Africa Trip

Spring is in full force here in ATL. Earlier in the season [late Jan] was pretty fortunate to head to Cape Town South Africa with my dad. Was on my bucket list for a long time and the stars aligned ticket wise with Delta’s Global Upgrade Certificates [GUCs]. Got a pair of return tickets ATL-CPT in Delta One for the price of coach. Thanks Delta!

First Time in South Africa

Cape Town is certainly up there in the prettiest places I have ever visited. Went in late January which is summer time in the southern hemisphere. Spent less than a week on the ground as three days were in the air going and coming.

Getting around was pretty easy, we used Uber for most trips around Cape Town. To/from the airport was with Blacklane. Splurged on a guided tour with African Moon Adventures which I certainly recommend if you are looking for a Cape Town / greater Cape Town area tour.

Below are a selection of the photos from the trip. As of April 2023, ATL-CPT is Delta’s longest operating flight. Got to have a pit stop at Truth Coffee which was voted a few times the best coffee shop in the world.

Took a few days to get over the jet lag, super glad got to spend time with dad as it was his first time on the continent of Africa.

Other Updates

Spring is going pretty well. Kofi is even more mellow as he enters his 6th year of life.

Kofi reflecting on his day. Lots of rain in ATL in Spring means he can’t go out as much as he wants.

I got my backyard fenced in for Kofi. HOA only allows four feet high fences and to my surprise, Kofi can clear the fence. He got out one time while I was out in the backyard with him. So he is on leash in the backyard with me now.

Fresh pinestraw for Spring in the backyard.

My backyard is a little strange. I have a big lot but because of zoning here, the area covered in pine straw is part of my yard [which I have to maintain]. Though this is considered a buffer area between subdivisions and can’t fence this in. This took 150 residential bails of pine straw to cover which if you know pine straw, takes 1-2 refreshes a year.

Work Front

Things are going well at Harness. Over six months of being a product manager now behind me and still learning lots. Got to build a small team so back to being a manager.

Looking Ahead to Summer

Got a light amount of trips coming up. My ever six months or so trip to Washington DC area is coming up soon for a night. Later in the summer getting a few friends together and headed to the Buffalo Wing Tour in Buffalo [yum!].

Got a Blackstone as a house warming gift from a buddy of mine. Been trying to grill/griddle out more, learning how to use this thing, looking forward to more warm weather cooking.

Onwards!
